Trend Spotlight: Crushed Velvet

Crushed Velvet. Ahhh, what a delicious fabric and ohhhh how horribly awry it can go if you don't watch it! Here are my very carefully plucked picks from this season's scrumptious trend.

X. Jewls

Just to start off my velvet tirade, here is a darling picture of DJ Bip Ling with a sick velvet head piece. I'm envious of this one. I could do without the Ray Ban Wayfarer's though.

Alexander Wang Bustier Romper, $545. Well worth it. I would wear the day lights out of this piece.

The detailing is so beautiful. The buttons and lace are so reminiscent of the Edwardian era. Definitely right up my ally.

Bodkin Crushed Infinity Legging, $127. I need to run down to TenOverSix on Melrose and snatch these. Such a good throw on. I hope they have my size left!

Velvet Dr. Martens, $160. Seriously? I know. These are over the top. But imagine them with darling cable knit cream tights, a mini pleated black skirt, a billowing silk tuxedo blouse, and a big fur coat? Um, yes. I want that whole look on this instant.

Lover dress, $368. Ah, it's nice to sometimes bust out something super form fitting. Liza and I tend to go for things that swallow us whole, but I could definitely go for this dress with a nice tight chignon early 90's style and a massive necklace. Love it.

With Hearts in My Eyes Velvet Lori Shorts, $140. Liza has already gobbled these up in the pants version. I am still biding my time trying to be selfless with my holiday shopping. Haha, it's hard!! But in time, these shorts and the pants will definitely be joining my velvet collection for the season.

Tsumori Chisato Print Cardigan, $515. Ok, honestly... Liza and I have a love/hate relationship with Tsumori. All of her pieces completely murder us but they are so so so expensive and out of reach! Her prints are so darling. I mean crescent moons on this little baby? How cute! She is so innovative and her garments are perfectly made in and out.

I love how it capes out it in the back. It would be perfect with tap shorts, a great pair of tights or thigh high socks and flat boots.

Alexander McQueen Velvet Scarf, $395. Ohhh, McQueen I miss you so much. I know the skulls are tired, but I still collect these just cause I love them. And now we have velvet available so this is a must.

I love how the skulls are less visible when on. This is a great piece.

Alexander Wang Velvet Pullover Sweatshirt, $485. I want to sleep in this every night. End of story.

Bow Body Suit, $48. No explanation is needed on this one. I would throw this on under everything in my wardrobe.

Velvet Turban, $48. So fun for the holidays and with totally absurd colorful make up like this. Why not? Fashion is supposed to be experimental. Let's get crazy.

Valentino Haute Couture Dress. Ok. Dun. Dun. Dun. Here is the love of my life. And above all, one of my favorite little buttons, Frida Gustavsson is wearing it. I would do anything for this dress. Anything!

Some fashion "do's" for velvet.

Cutie pie Alexa.

Loving these velvet trousers.
